Today I was supposed to see the office of Time Out New York, a magazine that writes about things to do in New York City. I left my house at 11 a.m., thinking that would be plenty of time to make it to the office by 12:15–maybe I could even grab some lunch on the way. But damn the rain and my hopeless directional sense. I accidentally walked toward 4th Ave instead of 4th St (anyone reading this not native to New York, ALWAYS keep this in mind, Ave and St are VERY different), and by the time I had found the building I was 45 minutes late.
Feeling too sheepish to walk into the magazine’s office so late, I opted to wait for my friends at a nearby cafe/pub, the Hudson Yards Cafe. It turned out to be really pleasant. It’s kind of a locals bar/cafe, very laid back with friendly bartenders, and interesting decor (one wall is covered in framed book covers). At one point, a patron slipped and fell on the floor after walking in from the rain. To make him feel better, the bartender offered him a double shot of Patron, on the house. If it didn’t take me over an hour to get to the cafe, I think I’d go there regularly. It’d be nice to go where everybody knows my name.
