I don’t normally post press releases but this conference sounds really cool. It’s the PubWest Conference 2013 and this year’s theme is The Innovative Publisher. Held in Santa Fe, New Mexico, from Nov. 7-9, the conference will have keynotes by Steven Piersanti, president of Berrett-Koehler Publishers; Jen Bilik, owner and founder of Knock Knock Stuff; Nadine Vassallo, project manager, Research and Information, for the Book Industry Study Group (BISG); and Gus Gostyla, VP of Business Development at Inkling . Additionally, there will be preconference intensive sessions, including “Reimagining Ink-on-Paper Books” with design expert Todd Oldham, and “Face-to-Face, Screen-to-Screen: The New Interface between Buyers, Distributors, and Sellers,” detailing the features and use of the online catalog system Edelweiss and bringing together panelists from publishers, distributors, and bookstores, as well as the following roundtable sessions: “Streamlining Editorial and InDesign Workflows,” “Brand Style: Why Your Press Needs It, How to Build It,” “Getting Your Financial House in Order,” “Selling Stories: How to Market and Sell Narrative Titles,” “How to Get Effective Book Reviews,” “Outsourcing Publisher Services: Getting the Most Out of Distribution Through Partnerships,” and “Culling Data from the Book Industry Study Group.”
