As an indie author, there’s always something new to learn. It’s exciting, but sometimes it’s hard to know where to go to pick up new skills. Here are a few platforms and courses I’ve found useful. Some are more about coding, which can also be useful (for building an author website, or a cool app, or scripting something to help you with your writer’s block):
- Absolute Write: Recommended writing classes
- Institute for Writers: Courses for children’s writing
- Gotham Writers: Creative writing courses
- Writers.com: Online writing classes and a community of writers
- MediaBistro: Online courses for writing, marketing, and more
- Coursera: Online learning from universities and companies
- Udacity: Specializes in tech skills
- Code Academy: Learn to code, for free
- Udemy: Paid courses, but offers a wide range of topics (check ratings and reviews, also good if you’re considering creating your own online courses)
- BenchPrep: A learner success platform, more for companies setting up courses (still interesting to poke around)
- XanEdu: “The world’s largest provider of copyright-cleared content for print & digital course packs” (also seemed interesting)
- Saylor Academy: Offers a wide variety of college courses
- We Grow Media: Provides a program for authors and marketing
