I’m spending the next week or so in Australia and I’ve already fallen in love with one of their independent bookstores: Ariel Books. Earlier today, I stumbled upon the one on 103 George Street, The Rocks, and it was magical. The store is small, but it’s filled with books I’ve never seen or heard of before.
I also just enjoy comparing covers of the same book in different countries.
Penguin Group has a big role here, at least in this bookstore, which I liked.
Lastly, this was actually next door to the bookstore, but in my Interactive Media class we spent a good chunk of time discussing interactive marketing strategies, including bar codes people can photograph with their phones and scan on to their computers later. It’s not just for books, it also works for attire, as seen in this bar code on display in front of Rip Curl.
