Traveling is great. You get to learn new things, meet new people, and explore. Lately, I’ve been enjoying also further exploring my passions via traveling. The main way I’ve been doing this is with I Know Dino, my podcast about dinosaurs. Whenever my husband and I travel somewhere new, we always look up where the nearest natural history museum or dinosaur exhibit or center is and make a point of visiting. It’s a great way to see a new city, and it often helps us get our bearings on how to get around.
That said, there are a lot of cool literature related museums. Below are a few I’ve recently heard about (in no particular order):
Noah Webster House & West Hartford Historical Society
Located in Hartford, Connecticut. Here you can learn about Noah Webster’s birthplace and his other works, in addition to An American Dictionary of the English Language.
The Mark Twain Boyhood Home & Museum
Located in Hannibal, Missouri. Here you can learn more about Mark Twain’s life and interact with some of his creations.
The Frost Place
Located in Franconia, New Hampshire. Here you can tour Robert Frost’s homestead and see some of his works.
Emily Dickinson Museum
Located in Amherst, Massachusetts. Here you can tour the Dickinson houses.
Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art
Located in Amherst, Massachusetts. Here you can see many exhibits of different picture books.
The Amazing World of Dr. Seuss Museum
Located in Springfield, Massachusetts. Here you can interact with exhibits and see the Dr. Seuss sculpture garden. Conde Nast Traveler has a whole write up about the museum.
Dublin Writers Museum
Located in Dublin, Ireland. Here you can learn more about writers from Ireland.
American Writers Museum
Located in Chicago, Illinois. Here you can learn about writers from America, and interact with exhibits. Both Smithsonian Mag and The News & Observer have write-ups.
