Earlier this year, I took part in some group coaching sessions. There was a small group of us, all content creators in various forms. The sessions were tough, and required us all to dig deep, but they were rewarding. Plus I got to meet, know, and learn from some truly amazing people. They are all inspiring, supportive, and full of insights. If you’re ever able to join something like that, I highly recommend it.
Here are a few nuggets I picked up over the sessions. They can apply to all sorts of situations (as a writer, a podcaster, video creator, really any type of creator).
1. “Imposters don’t get imposter syndrome, so if you’re feeling that way, you’re probably further along than you think.”
Wise words I heard from a fellow creator, and something I think we can all keep in mind.
2. “Goals are dreams with deadlines so let’s just manage expectations.”
I’ve got a couple big dreams for this year. Here’s to having deadlines and reaching your goals!
3. Have a routine
When are you most creative / productive?
I’m re-learning the value of having and sticking to a morning routine. Since having a baby, things have been haphazard for a while and I’m working on getting back to a more regular schedule.
Really appreciating the idea of “eating the frog” at the beginning of the day, and making the big decisions and doing the big tasks earlier in the day, when I’ve got more energy and will power, or when I’ve got the most spoons (another great analogy).
4. “You can’t control what people do, or how they’ll react to your content.”
Another good reminder.
Instead, keep making your content and telling your stories. Do it in a way that’s true to you, so that you feel good about doing it and it’s sustainable to keep going.
Content creation is a long game, and you never know when something you make is going to really resonate with people.
5. “Don’t post and ghost”
This nugget came from a webinar I attended that touched on marketing.
When it comes to marketing, it’s helpful to think of it not as marketing, or this thing you should do, but rather as content where you can provide value, where you tell stories and engage with your audience.
6. Be authentic
This one came from another webinar. (Bonus tip: Get to know the people in your industry. There are so many wonderful people out there who have lots of great knowledge that they’re willing to share.)
Sometimes it’s hard to feel authentic, especially if what you’re marketing is yourself.
Here’s a question to ask, that may help guide you:
What feeling do you want to share and evoke in someone else?
The very first line has a mistake. ‘I was took part…’ It almost made me stop reading. It might have the same result in others, who do stop reading!
Just a gentle pointing out. 😊
Fixed, thanks!
